Although the fair of the Lone Star State has become best known for its increasingly odd arrays into different kinds of fried foods, the State Fair of Texas 2015 is going slightly different now, as the judges officially announce the winners for this year's Big Tex Choice Awards!
A few days back, Food World News had made its first report of he State Fair of Texas 2015, as the committee, announced the finalists for this year's awards, eight in total: chicken fried lobster with champagne gravy, cowboy corn crunch, Fernie's Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly, fried beer-battered buffalo, Lone Star pork handle, pretzel-crusted pollo queso, deep-fried alligator's egg nest and smoky bacon margarita.
Now, according to CBS Local, the State Fair of Texas 2015 best foods have been announced ahead of the festival later this month: the Best Tasting Award went to Christi Erpillo for her popular dessert Fernie's Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly, while the Most Creative piece in the list went to Isaac Rousso's Smoky Bacon Margarita.
In fact, although this is the first time it wins, this carrot cake is certainly not new to this popular and beloved festival, as before the State Fair of Texas 2015 it was a finalist in nine of the past eleven competitions - and the family has had a stand on the fair for more than 45 years!
NBC reports that Erpillo's family is legendary in the State Fair of Texas 2015, as they're not only traditional contributors but they're also famous for introducing funnel cake to the event way back in the early 1980s.
According to WFAA, the Holy Moly Carrot Cake Roly is made from golden-baked bread and swirled with cinnamon, later filled with moist carrot cake, julienned carrots and plump raisins, then rolled with a coating of cream cheese and breaded in panko, graham crackers, nutmeg and cinnamon.
A completely delicious treat!
In the meantime, the other big winner, the Smoky Bacon Margarita, is a traditional frozen lime margarita with a smoky bacon flavor infused to it.
The State Fair of Texas 2015 will mark the very first time attendants will be able to vote for their favorite menu items and the public's winner will be announced in the last week of the famous festival!
