Ex-Apple CEO 'John Sculley' to Launch Obi Android this October

John Sculley, who was CEO of Apple during its early days before the iMac, is coming out with his own phone. Obi Worldphone is the name of the company that Sculley co-founded and they are due to release two phones in October of this year, CNN reports.

The Obi phones are not meant to go head to head with Sculley’s old employer. However, they did take some styling inspiration from the Cupertino tech leader but are in no way a copy of any current phones.
Obi phones actually have an interesting look to them—something quite difficult to do in a market oversaturated with smartphones.

The Obi SF1 is Sculley’s higher-end phone. It has some pretty impressive points, not in the least its price. At just $200, the Obi SF1 is an ultra-cheap flagship phone.

It has curved edges, a 5-inch HD screen, 13 MP camera, long battery life with turbo charging, and a very respectable processor. The SF1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 processor. Its Sony IMX214 Exmor sensor and hybrid auto focus promises split-second capture in any light.

As you have noticed, the Obi SF1 also has a novel design: the floating Gorilla Glass 4 display. Other sharp details can be found like “designed in San Francisco” on the back, a detail it shares with its smaller cousin. This design cue is obviously hat-tip to Apple’s own practices.

And speaking of the other Obi phone, meet the Obi SJ1.5, the second offer of Sculley to the world. It is smaller, all-plastic, and has a slower processor compare to the SF1.

The Obi SJ1.5 is powered by a MediaTek MT6580 quad core processor and its display is also protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It has an 8 MP camera and does not support 4G. What it lacks in features, however, is more than made up for by its super affordable price: $129.
