The identity of Michael Fassbender's character in 'Assassin's Creed' has finally been revealed, and it's not anyone who has previously appeared in any of the Ubisoft video games!

It has long been speculated that the 'X-Men' star would portray Desmond Miles, the bartender who gets turned into an assassin in the first incarnations of the game. However, the producers dispelled all rumors by announcing that Michael Fassbender would be playing an original character created for the movie.

Yahoo! has just unveiled the first promotional picture of Michael Fassbender as Callum Lynch, a completely new character who will be the lead protagonist in the theatrical film adaptation of 'Assassin's Creed.' The promo pic shows Fassbender in full Assassins gear, brandishing a dagger in each hand.

The official film description reads as follows:

"Through a revolutionary technology that unlocks his genetic memories, Callum Lynch (Michael Fassbender) experiences the adventures of his ancestor, Aguilar, in 15th Century Spain. Callum discovers he is descended from a mysterious secret society, the Assassins, and amasses incredible knowledge and skills to take on the oppressive and powerful Templar organization in the present day."

In addition to playing the lead role, Michael Fassbender will also be producing 'Assassin's Creed.' The 'Shame' star has previously confirmed with IGN that he wants the movie to remain loyal to the video game.

"You know, we absolutely want to respect the game," he said. "There's so much cool stuff in the game that we're actually spoiled for choice in terms of what we can use and what we can't, but we also want to bring new elements to it and perhaps our own version of things that already exist in the game. But we're definitely making a feature film, and we're approaching it as a feature film, as opposed to approaching it as a video game."

The 'Assassin's Creed' movie is scheduled for release on December 21, 2016.
