Take A Look at the First Released Photo of Jude Law on ‘The Young Pope’ [+ MORE PHOTOS]

Director Paolo Sorrentino might be more known for his Oscar-winning film, "The Great Beauty." But the Academy Award winning director has now taken on a new project, in the form of the TV drama series, "The Young Pope."

Paolo Sorrentino brings his genius creative eye, giving viewers a different perspective on the Vatican, and the conservative and controversial politics in "The Young Pope."

The series is a joint production of Sky, HBO, and Canal+, which recently released the first image from the series, which stars two-time Academy Award nominee Jude Law.

The newest image from Paolo Sorrentino puts Jude Law in a glamorous yet relaxed state under the Roman sun, wearing "designer sunglasses" paired a white hat and collared shit, both embellished with gold embroidery.

Jude Law portrays the role of Lenny Belardo, the Italian-American man who eventually becomes the first American Pope named Pope Pius XIII. The whole cast and crew of "The Young Pope" has been filming all over Rome, which began earlier this month.

Paolo Sorrentino outlines the show as:

"The inner struggle between the huge responsibility of the Head of the Catholic Church and the miseries of the simple man that fate (or the Holy Spirit) chose as Pontiff. Finally, how to handle and manipulate power in a state who dogma and moral imperative is the renunciation of power and selfless love towards one's neighbor."

The drama series seems to be very promising - especially with its star-studded international cast. Jude Law stars in "The Young Pope" alongside Diane Keaton, James Cromwell, Toni Bertorelli, Javier Camara, Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cecile de France, and Ludivine Sagnier.

"The Young Pope" features eight episodes, which will air on Sky Atlantic in Italy, Germany, Austria, the United Kingdom, and Ireland.
