Women Are More Prone To Bisexuality, Research Says

A study from a group of psychologists suggests that women are more prone to bisexuality than men. It also shows that women's sexuality is more flexible to change than men's.

Scientists from the US conducted the study by questioning more than 9,000 young people about their sexual actions. The 5,018 women and 4,191 men were trailed as each of them progressed from the adolescent stage to early adulthood. They were specifically asked about their sexuality thrice, between their teens and during their late 20s.

The asked questions include self-description of themselves, whether they are '100 percent heterosexual', 'mostly heterosexual', 'bisexual', 'mostly homosexual' or '100 per cent homosexual'.

The study shows that women are three times more prone to changing their sexuality than men. On the other hand, sexual identity changes are not that interesting for those women who are more educated, more appealing in physical aspects and those women who avoid early motherhood.

On the contrary, men are presumably more one sided in their sexuality. It's either they are 100% men or 100% bisexual/homosexual.

Dr. Elizabeth McClintock, the lead researcher from the University of Notre Dame, Indiana stated that, "Women with some degree of attraction to both males and females might be drawn into heterosexuality if they have favorable options in the heterosexual partner market."

Furthermore, Dr. McClintock said that the bisexuality of women can be traced on their romantic opportunities. Women who are more successful in their relationship with men have higher percentage of not changing their sexual identity.

Other aspects that can trigger bisexuality in women include social status and degree of attractiveness. For men, higher level of education and poor romantic opportunity do not indicate a change in identity. Dr. McClintock said that men are often less attracted to both sexes and that men's sexuality are less flexible. Physical aspects to men have also no link for being a bisexual.
