Imagine Carrie Bradshaw being played by another actress. Who would that even be? Broadway veteran Seth Rudetsky has revealed that Sarah Jessica Parker originally refused to play the iconic role in the HBO series, Sex and The City.
US Weekly reports that Rudetsky, who recently starred in a play alongside Parker and husband Matthew Broderick at Provincetown's Town Hall in Massachusettes revealed in his Playbill.com column that the two-time Emmy Winner has first thought about not joining the rest of the SATC girls.
"[Sarah Jessica] was reluctant to do the pilot because she didn't really want to do a series," Rudetsky wrote. "However, she loved the script, so she filmed it and then forgot about it. Months later she found out the show was picked up and she completely wanted to get out of it. I mean, completely. She really didn't want to be tied down to one job because she loved going from gig to gig and being, what she called, a 'journeyman.'"
The broadway actor added Parker even tried bargaining her way out of the contract. "She tried various ways to get out of it including telling HBO that she would film three projects for free if they'd release her from her contract!" he continued.
"Basically, they convinced her to honor her deal, and she now has no regrets. She loved playing Carrie Bradshaw."
Rudetsky even added there might be another Sex and The City movie coming up. "She told us that there may be a project coming up involving all the ladies," Rudetsky dished out.
"I'll tell you who it probably won't involve: me. I auditioned for the first movie and decidedly did not get cast. I'll also tell you, however, whom it might involve: my mother! She auditioned for the film and got a callback."
Parker's fashion-forward role as a writer living in New York City in the top-rating series that ran from 1998 to 2004 earned her multiple recognitions including two Emmy Awards, three Screen Actors Guild awards, and four Golden Globe awards.
The 50-year-old actress, model, singer and producer with a net worth of $90 million became famous for playing the lead character, Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City with co-actresses Kim Cattrall (Samantha Jones), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York).
After the final episode of the 6-year series, Sex and The City The Movie was released in theaters in 2008, followed by the sequel Sex and the City 2 in 2010.
