Saginaw Valley State University students were alarmed and evacuated, after the school's fire alarm sounded and smoke filled the hallway.
The students reportedly went to bed early that night but awoke shortly, after the fire alarm of the school made a loud noise. Upon exiting their room, they discovered that smoke was already all over the hallway.
Kochville firefighters arrived at the area at around 8:45. Upon searching the area for the possible source of the fire, a firefighter announced that it was "burnt food" that caused the smoke, from the third floor of the building.
The firefighter requested for a fan, to ventilate the area covered with smoke, while the other firefighters checked the other departments of the school. After a thorough investigation, officials confirmed that the smoke was just from burnt food, nothing else.
Fire Chief Alan Malesky said the burnt food was placed on top of the stove on the third floor. He was not just sure what kind of food it was, it's probably "noodle," he said.
It is still unclear who left the food on the top of the stove, no one was named guilty for the incident.
J.J. Boehm, spokesperson for Saginaw Valley State University, confirmed that no one was injured nor was there any damage to the property involved during the incident.
"No injuries or damage to the building," he said through email.
