Uber of Home Cooking Hits California

It is an exciting time for foodies with the booming "Uber for home cooking" website known as Josephine, Yahoo reports. Food enthusiasts who love to try out new dishes can sample the creations of excellent and up and coming kitchen legends-right in their homes!

The premise is straightforward. Hungry customers just log in and check out the available menu of Josephine's roster of home chefs. An image comes with a description of the meal and prices per meal can range from $7 - $13.

If you see something you like, then click it and pay for it using your credit card. Your reservation is complete when Josephine sends you the address of their home chef. The service is also similar to Etsy that you can review your experience.

If you want to join in on the Josephine experience, you apply with them online. The screening process involves cooking up a meal for an existing Josephine member in their own home. If the food, personality, and sanitary conditions of the hopeful home chef pass inspection, then the next step is to get a California food handler's license. Josephine also shoulders this.

If the first meal of the new member goes well, then he or she gets access to the entire Josephine portfolio. Members receive 90% of the revenue while Josephine receives the other 10%.

Charley Wang, company CEO at 25 years old, says that his goal for Josephine is to provide home-cooked meals for folks too busy with city life. But it is not limited to that. Their home chefs are given a platform to get their name out there in the saturated food market.

He says, "We want to empower people, through support, marketing, technology, software and education, to build their cooking brand," referring to the home chefs whose names they are helping to build up. Josephine is currently available only in Berkeley and Oakland but has plans to expand to San Francisco this year.
