The first day of classes for Sandy Hook Elementary students since the Dec. 14, 2012, started in a different town, Monroe.

The school bus traveled form Newtown, Connecticut to Monroe in front of 26 angels along the roadside Jan 3, 2013, according to CBS News.

Newtown superintendent Janet Robinson said that returning to school was an important part of the healing process for Sandy Hook families, according to CBS News.
"It let parents feel reassured that their children were going to be able to go back to school, be able to enjoy the joys of childhood."

Many students came to the new school in Monroe by school buses. School officials had suggested to help them get back into a familiar routine.

Around eighty parents gathered on Thursday with school and police officials and asked questions about security and plan for their children.

On Thursday, Gov. Dannel P. Malloy announced an advisory commission will review and recommend changes to state laws on gun control, school safety measures and mental health services in the wake of the Sandy Hook rampage, according to CBS News.

Many school volunteers and workers tried to make the new school familiar to their old school. They brought children's desks and chairs from their old school. The classroom wall painted the same color, the same pictures hung, and same location of cubbies and bookshelves made children feel at home.
