'Gotham' Update: Ben McKenzie Explains What Went Wrong With Season 1 And How The Second Season Will Be Much Better

The second season of 'Gotham' is well underway, and Ben McKenzie wants the fans to know that there will be no repeat of the mistakes from Season One.

The actor who plays James Gordon recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly, where he discussed the several errors of the first season of 'Gotham.'

"I think we made a mistake relatively early on in trying to introduce a villain and take care of that villain in one episode: catch them, send them to Arkham, do whatever," said McKenzie. "That was just a mistake. We should've never done it."

Ben McKenzie also admitted that the cast had to endure an irregular shooting schedule.

"We were ordered for 16 [episodes]," he said. "We were going to have one break and come back and finish the rest of them in terms of the airing, and then we added six more, so we had to break again and then we had to come back again."

Although the cast of 'Gotham' got through the shooting just fine, the former 'OC' star says that the hiatus in between episodes affected the fans the most. "It's hard for the audience to follow that many changes in a series in terms of when it's airing and when it's not," McKenzie said.

However, a lot of things have changed in the shooting for the second season. Ben McKenzie said confirmed that the fans will finally get to know all the characters properly.

"The audience really wants to understand who these people are and live with them, sit with them and enjoy them," he said. "Whether they're evil or good, they are entertaining. So that's what we're doing in season 2. [It's] really kick ass. I think it's exactly what the fans want to see."

The second season of 'Gotham' will air on Fox on September 21.
