'Scandal' Season 5 Spoiler: A Presidential Divorce Imminent?

For the upcoming Season 5 of "Scandal," writer and series creator Shonda Rhimes has revealed a lot during the "Scandal" panel at the Television Critics Association summer press tour in Beverly Hills, reported Cleveland.com.

Rhimes was joined by actress star Kerry Washington, who plays Olivia Pope, at the panel, and not have they only revealed some exciting "Scandal" Season 5 spoilers, Washington also shared why she doesn't want to be her character, Olivia, in real life.

In Season 4, Olivia had been kidnapped by the vice president's henchmen as part of a scheme take control of President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn. Being the protagonist, Olivia survived and following her rescue, she made sure to bring down her father's (Joe Morton) spy organization. Pope's affair with the president wasn't exactly what fans would hope for until the final episode, as they reunited passionately. Fitz had found out about his wife's actions while campaigning for the Senate campaign, and, repulsed, he threw her out of the White House.

Now, the new "Scandal" Season 5 teaser is something fans would be happy about, hinting at a possible presidential divorce, according to the Inquisitr. Known to some as Olitz, Olivia and Fitz will be back in each other's arms in the upcoming season, according to Rhimes dring the TCA session.

As for Mellie, the president's wife played by Bellamy Young, since Elizabeth North, who was played by Portia de Rossi, has exposed Mellie's relationship with Olivia's father Rowan Pope, the president may have had it with his relationship with his wife.

Young recently confirmed that season 5 show Mellie in deep trouble, despite having gotten her much-wanted position in the Senate, according to the International Business Times.

"It should be the best time in the world - she got her senate seat! - but it's like the worst, because Fitz kicked her out. And he was so cold when he did it," Young told TVLine.

"She knows in her heart that Fitz has Olivia on speed dial as the door is shutting behind her," the actress added, but she also added that Mellie isn't the type who simply goes down without a fight.

So, will Rhimes be scripting a presidential divorce for "Scandal" Season 5? While the producer executive producer said the following: "Make of this what you will: 'We don't comment on future storylines," she said. She also said that the concept of a presidential divorce is intriguing during a 1-on-1 at ABC's party.

According to Deadline, Shonda also said that she will definitely be picking up almost where things left off with the last season of Scandal.

"That was a pretty harrowing place where the world had been blown apart for everybody except for Olivia and Fitz, who were left on the Truman balcony ... doing some kissin'. But everybody else was in a fairly low-at-heart place. Mellie wasn't living in the White House because Fitz kicked her out. Jake said he was walking away. Quinn was thinking about killing Huck. Things weren't going so well for people, and we pick up right there in that environment," she said.

"Scandal" Season 5 will return on September 24, 9 p.m., Thursday on ABC.
