It's been ten years since Hurricane Katrina, but remnants from its disaster continue to haunt New Orleans. Brad Pitt to the rescue - the actor and philanthropist been dedicated to help pick up the pieces and rebuild the beloved city.

In fact, his Make It Right Foundation has been gaining worldwide recognition, thanks to its eye-catching designs and green initiatives. There are solar panels and rainwater collectors installed in every home.

"I walked into it blind, just thinking, 'People need homes; I know people who make great homes. Let's solve this problem of the inequality and low-income housing in a place that's been ravaged by the environment,'" said Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt and wife Angelina Jolie recently put up their five-bedroom French Quarter home for sale, priced at $6.5 million.

However, Brad Pitt assures that his family has no intentions of leaving the city for good - they're actually planning to buy another home in the near future.

Brad Pitt's efforts definitely were worth it, the Make It Right Foundation has since shelled out $26.8 million to build a total of 109 houses within an area of 20 blocks.

"I get this well of pride when I see this little oasis of color and the solar panels," Brad Pitt admitted.

Not only that, but Brad Pitt also feels a sense of accomplishment when he learns that he's also been helping members of the community cut down on daily costs.

"I drive into the neighborhood and I see people on their porch, and I ask them how is their house treating them. And they say, 'Good.' And I say, 'what's your utility bill?' And they'll throw something out like, '24 bucks' or something, and I feel fantastic."

Hurricane Katrina devastated over 5,300 homes in a neighborhood that once had the highest rate of black home ownership in New Orleans.

Not only that, but thanks to Brad Pitt's efforts, the Lower Ninth Ward has been able to rise again, in a slow yet steady growth.
