Fans, comic enthusiasts and TV experts are weighing in on the TV series 'Arrow' and 'The Flash,' in the wake of the growing anticipation for the upcoming movie, 'Batman v. Superman.'
Danny C., an obvious Arrow and the Flash fan, wrote Portal Apocalypse writer Rob Bricken, 'Why do we still need Superman and Batman'? He pointed out the high points of the superhero characters of the Arrow and Flash.
He thinks Flash is a better Superman, because while he has a savior complex, he is not 'god-like' as the former. For him, the Flash is fast and strong, but has physical and emotional frailties, which are not depicted in the Man of Steel, who he says is too high on his own power.
Despite a growing popularity and viewership for the new superheroes, one cannot deny that there is still a need for Superman and Batman.
In terms of TV viewership, CW's 'The Flash' is currently at the top spot, averaging 3.84 million viewers per episode. Coming up second is 'Arrow', with about 2.76 million watching every week. Taking out the expenses needed to make for the two shows, they are worth a total of $66 million.
The 'Man of Steel' earned $ 668 million worldwide. The Batman vs. Superman is expected to top that number. For that alone, there will always be Superman and Batman, no matter how well their TV versions do.
There can be no competition among these costumed superheroes from DC Comics. Arrow is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, launched in 2012. Stephen Amell plays the main character Oliver Queen, the hooded Arrow, a billionaire playboy moonlighting as a vigilante who fights against crime. The show has been nominated and even won various awards.
On the other hand, 'The Flash' is a spin-off from 'Arrow'. It stars the character of Barry Allen aka Flash. He fights crime using his superhuman speed. Actor Grant Gustin has been leading the cast since the show premiered in 2014.
