Apple's much publicized music streaming service Apple Music has only been out a few months, but it seems a large number of users are already jumping ship from the product. A claim that has been refuted by the Cupertino, CA based tech giant.
A survey conducted by MusicWatch and published in Business Wire states that 1 in 10 iOS users make of the service. The number that stands out the most in the survey though, is the 48% of free trial users who say they are no longer using the app.
"Among people who had tried Apple Music, 48 percent reported they are not currently using the service. More than one quarter (28 percent) of Spotify Premium customers also use Apple Music, but the draw from popular ad-supported services is more modest: Just 11 percent of Spotify Free users, and 6 percent of Pandora users, now use Apple's offering."
Apple boldly offered users an extended 3-month free trial. The survey shows that 64% of these users were 'very likely' to renew while 61% said they deactivated the auto-renew option in their account settings.
Apple denies these figures entirely however. In a statement made to tech website The Verge, the company says that 79 percent of people who signed up for Apple Music still utilize the service. A considerably higher figure than the one MusicWatch reported.
It's been an up and down first few months for Apple's foray into online streaming. The service has received good feedback on offerings like its exclusive Beats One Radio service, but it's also had its share of vocal critics. In July, popular apple blogger Jim Dalrymple called the service a 'nightmare' and said he wanted it off all his devices immediately.
Are these numbers just a bump in the road? Or is Apple Music already beginning to falter? We'll have to wait and see.
