At the recently concluded D23 expo last weekend, Disney announced that the world of Big Hero 6, the marvel comic book they adapted into a feature film, will be coming to the video game Kingdom Hearts 3.
Kingdom Hearts is a roleplaying game developed by Japanese studio Square Enix. The franchise is set in a fictional universe that features characters and locations from many famous Disney movies.
In an announcement video, Roy Conli of Walt Disney Animation Studios revealed to fans that San Fransokyo, the futuristic city mash up of San Francisco and Tokyo the film takes place in, will be in the game.
"Big Hero 6 is such a special film for me," said Conli, "and we always made sure that each action sequence had a very special meaning. The themes in Kingdom Hearts and Big Hero 6 match very well. For instance there's friendship, really important to both stories, and then of course light over darkness."
The game will pick up where the film left off, but how the two universe's will merge is still up in the air.
Disney also revealed concept art, featuring the film's lovable robot character Baymax joining forces with Kingdom Hearts protagonist Sora to combat a dark version of himself. According to Gamespot, Kingdom Hearts 3's still unamed antagonist creates the evil Baymax doppleganger using the power of darkness.
Unfortunately for fans, no word on a possible release date for Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced. The game made its debut at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2013 and has teased fans with numerous trailers and gameplay demos, the most recent of which was shown at the 2015 iteration of the conference.
Big Hero 6 is the latest of Disney's franchises to make an appearance in the game. Prior to D23 it was announced that the world and characters of Tangled would also be apart of Kingdom Hearts.
