Actor and director, Morgan Freeman, is mourning the loss of his granddaugther Edena Hines, who was found dead on Sunday, August 16, with multiple stab wounds on her chest, People reported.
911 had responded to a call at 3 AM and arrived at the crime scene where Edena Hines, 33, was seen lying on the street, lifeless with visible stab wounds on her chest. She was pronounced dead upon arriving at the Harlem Hospital.
According to ongoing invetigations, a 30-year old man who was at the crime scene in front of Hine's home apartment at West 162nd Street, New York City, was immediately brought to police custody.
George Hudacko, 65, who made the 911 call, said that he saw a man repeatedly shouting, "Get out devils! I cast you out devils in the name of Jesus Christ! I cast you out!"
He went on to say that as he watched Hines get murdered, there was nothing he could do to help.
Morgan Freeman, 78, has released a statement about his granddaughter's death. "The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer. Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts, and prayers. May she rest in peace."
Edena Hines is Morgan Freeman's granddaughter from his first wife, Jeanette Adair Bardshaw. She studied acting at the New York University and was working as a teacher to unprivileged youth in Memphis, Tennessee.
Before she passed away, Edena was back in New York and blogged to share about her experiences. She wrote, "I thought I was the group cheerleader, giving them what they needed to keep going cause I was blessed with exuberant amounts of energy, but I was more exhausted when it counted."
"Ahhhhhhh.... There is something beautiful in knowing you can find your stillness and be silent, but you can also be a ball power," she added.
The veteran actor on the other hand, has made several box office hit movies over the years, including "Million Dollar Baby," "Dark Knight," "Driving Miss Daisy," "Street Mart," "The Lego Movie" and "Lucy."
Morgan Freeman will star in the upcoming American action thriller movie "London Has Fallen" along with Aaron Eckhart and Gerard Butler. The movie is set to be released on January 2016.
