Fans simply cannot wait until the film adaptation of the video game 'World of Warcraft' finally makes it to theaters. In the middle of all the excitement is director Duncan Jones, who can't help but feel proud about the project.
The 'Warcraft' director recently spoke to CBR during the San Diego Comic-Con, where he confirmed that the film will tackle mankind's first encounter with the Orcs in Azeroth.
"I have been playing the game for twenty years, and 'Lost Vikings' before that, so I'm familiar with the 'Warcraft' universe," Jones said.
It was his idea to let the movie start from the beginning, like the first versions of the game. "It gave us some stipulations as to what the film would be," Jones said.
Getting started is not as easy as it appears to be. Duncan Jones admitted that Blizzard initially had their reservations in making a film adaptation because the gaming giant wanted to preserve the aspect of the game.
"It was difficult for them to find a way to make the film in the first place, because the [outside filmmakers] working on it before did not see it that way," he said.
However, Jones' love for the game helped find the right way to make the movie true to the core of 'World of Warcraft.'
"As a player, I've always seen it that, whichever side you chose, your character's the hero," he said. "We have to do a war story where you have the opportunity to empathize with both sides. It tells a story of a conflict in which there is no way of escaping it. We follow heroes on both sides."
Once that was established, Blizzard gave Duncan Jones more freedom with 'Warcraft.'
"It made the process that much smoother," he admitted.
But which side is Duncan Jones rooting for, men or Orcs? The director wouldn't say, but he later admitted, "I'm always in love with the Orcs."
'Warcraft' will premiere on June 10, 2016.
