'Star Wars' News: Luke Skywalker's Fate May Be Revealed In 'The Force Awakens!'

It looks like curiousity can make big-time directors change their minds quickly, especially if they want to know what happened to the son of Anakin Skywalker.

Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy confirmed with EW that she managed to convince director J.J. Abrams to sign on to 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' with only four simple words.

"In the context of talking about story and laying out what we were thinking, I said one thing to him. 'Who is Luke Skywalker?'" Kennedy said.

Abrams, who had initially turned down the project to pursue a more original project, was immediately hooked by the possibility of finding out about Luke Skywalker's identity and future.

"He said, 'Oh my God, I just got the chills. I'm in,'" Kennedy said.

J.J. Abrams is not the only one eager to find out more about Luke Skywalker, who was last seen contemplating the effects of the Battle of Endor. It seems like the world wants to know what happened to him after 30 years, and whether he has coped with how quickly his life changed since he left Tatooine.

According to EW, something must have changed in Luke Skywalker. "War distorts any soul, and getting older always comes with compromises. Each one takes a piece of you - parts that can't be replaced like a cybernetic hand."

Kathleen Kennedy confirms there could be conflict within Luke.

"The themes and ideas that we all continue to talk about are the themes and ideas that were the inherent in the original movies," she said. "We're looking, obviously, for aspiration, for characters who are conflicted between good and evil, dark and light."

Luke Skywalker was portrayed by Mark Hamill in 'Star Wars' Episodes IV to VI, and the actor is set to return to reprise his role as the farmboy who became a Jedi.

Find out what happened to Luke Skywalker when 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' crashes into theaters on December 18, 2015.
