Is Kendrick Lamar the latest rapper to take shots at Drake? After the Meek Mill drama that engulfed the rap world and social media the past few weeks, it seems like Kendrick has his own beef with the Toronto based rap star.
Lamar's disses came via the two tracks he guested in on Dr. Dre's much awaited third studio album 'Compton.' The first track, titled 'Darkside/Gone' features this verse:
"You scared of my heist now/But still I got enemies giving me energy/I wanna fight now/Subliminals sending me all of this hate/I thought I was holding the mic down."
Some see this is a reference to Drake's song 'Energy', which was released this year as part of his 'If Your Reading This It's Too Late' mixtape.
Lamar's other track on Compton, 'Deep Water', contains more concrete shots at Drake. During his part of the song he raps:
"Motherf*cker know I started from the bottom... They liable to bury him, they nominated six to carry him/ They worrying him to death, but he's no vegetarian/ The beef is on his breath, inheriting the drama better than/ A great white, n*gga, this is life in my aquarium."
Started from the Bottom sounds like a reference to Drake's hit song of the same name. While the mention of 'six' is an obvious nod to Drake's hometown of Toronto and his nickname 'the six god.'
This isn't the first time Lamar has used a guest spot on another Rapper's song to fire shots at his contemporaries. On Big Sean's 2013 song 'Control', Lamar famously unleashed a verse calling out numerous names in the rap world, Drake included.
At the time Drake told Billobard:
"It just sounded like an ambitious thought to me...I know good and well that Kendrick's not murdering me, at all, in any platform...When that day presents itself, I guess we can revisit the topic"
Will Drake take cues from his Meek Mill rivalry and release a comeback at Kendrick? We'll have to wait and see.
