After years of waiting, finally there's a "My Little Pony" movie underway, and it's already signed up one of the biggest names in Broadway and voice work for the job, as Kristin Chenoweth, who most recently played Maleficent in "Descendants," joins the project - friendship is magic!
In a recent statement from Lionsgate, the film production company announced its recent contract with Hasbro to make a "My Little Pony" movie soon, featuring Chenoweth's talents in Equestria, the fantasy land inhabited by beloved characters such as Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Applejack.
According to Cinema Blend, the deal to make the "My Little Pony" movie also includes Meghan McCarthy, a writer for "MLP" since taking on the job for 2013's "My Little Pony: Equestria Girls," as well as director Jayson Theissen, who has been involved with the franchise since "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic."
The original cast for the beloved series, which has a wide following of grown-ups as well as children, will be joining the "My Little Pony" movie, which will see the lady ponies fighting a new dark force threatening their lifestyle, and they'll all embark in an adventure well beyond the borders of Equestria, in a quest to safe their homeland through the magic of their friendship.
"We are thrilled to expand the 'My Little Pony' story to the big screen, and take these beloved characters on a new and unexpected journey that will delight fans of all ages," said Stephen Davis, Chief Content Officer of Hasbro, in a statement about the "My Little Pony" movie. "It's an honor to add Kristin Chenoweth to the cast as the voice of an all new, never-before-seen 'My Little Pony' character in the film. Her incredible Broadway and silver screen performances in "Wicked," "Glee," and many more make her the perfect fit for this animated, musical adventure."
According to Deadline, Hasbro is currently handling another major project besides the "My Little Pony" movie: "Monopoly."
