Most Expensive Wine 2015: Burgundy ’85 Richebourg Grand Cru Costs Over $15,000 A Bottle, But Why?

After surveying more than 7 million wines across the world, British experts from the website WineSearcher have located the most expensive wine 2015, and the winner, which costs over $15,000 a bottle, comes from the historical wine region of Burgundy in France, as it's a rare wine invented by someone called a genius in the wine-making trade.

The most expensive wine 2015 is the 1985 Richebourg Grand Cru, created by Henri Jayer, who has been called a "visionary" wine-maker, retails for €14,254 (which translates to US$15,616), and it's a fairly unknown little drink that stems from one of the most famous wine regions in the entire plane.

According to France24, the most famous wine 2015 was released as part of an annual list in the U.K. website, and it's not even the only one of Jayer's wines in the top 5 of the priciest in the world, as his Cros-Parantoux, Vosne-Romanee Premier Cru (also from Burgundy) was the third most expensive in the world at $8,832 per 75ml bottle.

Jayer died in 2006 at 84 years of age, but not before making some huge changes in the world of winemaking, including his lifelong refusal to using chemicals and small-scale productions, which meant he only made about 3,500 bottles a year.

Time Magazine reports that the second most expensive wine 2015 also came from Burgundy - namely The Romanee-Conti Grand Cru, which costs roughly $12,000 per bottle.

The survey that found the most expensive wine 2015 studied 55,000 wine merchants that sold over 7 million wines, and it was clear that the most costly of the bunch were from Burgundy, as the east-central French region dominated the polls with 40 out of the 50 most expensive wines in the world.

According to Herald Sun, out of the top 50, there were only five non-French wines made the cut, namely four German wines and one from California; France's flagship wine-making country, Bordeaux, only had two entries on the list of most expensive wines 2015.
