Guillermo del Toro Reveals Who's Returning In Pacific Rim 2

With a number of characters taken off the table at the end of Pacific Rim and many of the film's stars working on blockbuster after blockbuster, fans have been wondering since the sequel was announced: who is actually coming back for Pacific Rim 2? Apparently, everyone who didn't die. "Charlie Day has a great part but so does Charlie Hunnam," del Toro told a group of reporters according to a recent Slashfilm report. "I think that everybody or most everybody that survived is back. The rest we killed. We killed half the cast." The movie was one giant roller coast ride of giant monsters fighting enormous human-controlled Jaegers. And there were a lot of casualties.

Because of the high body count, a lot of actors are going to be out of a job when pacific rim 2 begins shooting this fall. Some have speculated that leading man Charlie Hunnam won't be back.

Guillermo del Toro says that's not the case. If he gets his way, we'll see everyone from the first film. If he holds true to his word on the sequel, we'll see the return of Raleigh Becket (Charlie Hunnam) and Mako Mori (Rinko Kikuchi) as retired Jaeger pilots who once saved the world from rampaging beasts. We'll probably see more of Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) and Gottlieb (Burn Gorman) as scientists obsessed with the Kaiju. Ron Perlman's Hannibal Chau may also be back. Sure, it looked as though he was killed by one of the Kaiju, but the Pacific Rim post-credit scene showed that he was very much alive. Idris Elba's Stacker Pentacost, however, is very much dead and will not return.

At the moment, none of the actors appear to be signed for a sequel. But both Charlie Hunnam and Burn Gorman are returning in this fall'sCrimson Peak, which hints at a good working relationship between the actors and their director. Just recently, Charlie Hunnam teased his return as Raleigh, saying he wants more of a character arc and more story, with less CG action. Though, with the film to possibly go off-planet to focus more on the Kaiju, that seems unlikely.
