It sounds like the reboot of Ghostbusters is shaping up to have quite the cast! A new report claims Bill Murray, the main star of the 1984 original has joined on to Paul Feig‘s star-studded film with his costar Dan Aykroyd.
After decades of resisting the idea of another Ghostbusters movie, Bill Murray has finally given in.
Variety has confirmed that Bill will join Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, Leslie Jones and Chris Hemsworth in the reboot.
While the extent of his role is uncertain, it’s said to be a cameo, probably along the lines of Dan Aykroyd’s mysterious appearance. Bill Murray allegedly filmed a scene in the new Ghostbusters is this summer’s biggest shocker.
Bill Murray originally portrayed Dr. Peter Venkman in the first two films, which hit theaters in 1984 and 1989. Murray told Letterman earlier this year that he was loathe to appear in a new Ghostbusters property after Ghostbusters II didn’t receive the same acclaim as the first film.
Bill has spoken briefly about the remake, telling MTV News last month at San Diego Comic Con, that the cast is “like a murderers’ row there.”
He also admitted that he ran into Paul Feig and they spoke for a moment about the reboot but it never came up again.
Bill Murray didn’t confirm or deny his participation at that time, but did add,“I think they’re going to have a great success with it.”
Because the new movie is not a sequel, it is speculated that Murray won't be playing Dr. Peter Venkman.
Castmate Dan Aykroyd is also making a return appearance, and it was recently confirmed he shot a scene with Kristen Wiig. Still no word on whether Feig has a part in all this for the third surviving member of the crew, Ernie Hudson.
Melissa McCarthy, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon are the other ladies suiting up in those iconic jumpsuits. The reboot is currently filming in Boston, and set to hit theaters on July 22, 2016.
Currently, Bill Murray's net worth stands at $140 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth.
