Fantastic Four Director Slams Studio for Film's Poor Performance

The word is out and it looks like Fox's latest stab at bringing the Fantastic Four to the big screen is a flop. As of this writing, the reboot currently sits at an abysmal 10% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. It fairs marginally better on Metacritic, with a Meta score of 27/100 from 37 counted reviews.

In the wake of the criticism, Josh Trank, the film's director took to twitter to voice his frustrations on the project. In a tweet that has since been deleted, Trank claims he had a better cut of the film prepped a year ago, but intervention from the studio resulted in major changes to his original vision.

"A Year Ago I had a fantastic version of this. And it would've received great reviews. You'll probably never see it. That's reality though." Read the tweet.

Trank has risen quickly through the Hollywood ranks. He caught the attention of many with his 2012 debut Chronicle, a 'found footage' superhero movie that put an interesting spin on an oversaturated genre.

He was given the reigns to Fantastic Four soon after and was also in talks to direct a spin-off anthology film set in the Star Wars universe. He bowed out from that gig earlier this year saying it was a 'personal decision.'

However, The Hollywood Reporter said back in May that Trank was removed from Star Wars due to some troubling stories from the set of The Fantastic Four.

"producers on Fantastic Four, set for release on Aug. 7, are said to have faced great challenges pulling the film together given behavior described by one insider as "erratic" and at times "very isolated." Trank did not offer clear direction, this person adds, saying, "If you've got someone who can't answer questions or who isn't sure or is in hiding, that's not good." Said the report.
