With less than a month to go until the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, publisher Konami has released 30 minutes of gameplay to whet gamers' appetites. The footage comes from the ongoing Gamescom Expo currently taking place in Cologne, Germany.
The video gives us a glimpse at Mother Base, the military headquarters that will serve as the player's base of operations throughout the game. 'Phantom Pain' features base building and customization mechanics similar to Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, which was released on the Playstation Portable and Playstation 3 several years ago.
Over the course of the demo we see some of the different areas of Mother Base and their functions.
The Research and Development platform is where players can unlock new weapons and items via the numerous scientists and mechanics housed there.
The Combat Unit platform allows the player to send soldiers out on various tasks and missions. Accomplishing these things will most likely affect the player's own solo missions out in the field.
Finally the Support platform is, as the name suggests, where various backup and off-map help can be developed to aid you during missions out in the game's massive open world.
Another shorter video, reveals the game's balloon mechanic. Players can strap a hi-tech parachute like gadget onto almost any NPC or animal out in the game world. Once hooked on to, the target will be flown into the air to be collected by and returned to Mother Base.
The Phantom Pain is set to release on September 1, 2015. The game is the fifth numbered entry in the stealth action franchise created by legendary game designer Hideo Kojima. The game is predicted to be Kojima's final as head of the franchise, after his falling out with Konami.
