Gwyneth Paltrow Lobbies Congress for GMO Labelling

Gwyneth Paltrow has just thrown her hat into the food industry showdown currently taking place on Capitol Hill. The 42 year old actress, flanked by mother Blythe Danner and a group of US senators that included Montana's Jon Tester and California's Barbara Boxer, spoke up against the Safe and Accurate Food Labelling Act, a bill that would ban states from passing individual GMO-labeling laws.

Critics on Paltrow's side of the fence have dubbed the bill the DARK act, which is short for 'Denying Americans the Right to Know.' More than 200,000 supporters signed a petition against this new legislation, which Paltrow presented in addition to her speech.

'I'm not here as an expert. I'm here as a mother, an American mother, that honestly believes I have the right to know what's in the food I feed my family.' Said Paltrow.

'My kids are normal American children and they eat everything everybody else eats. 'I'm a home cook and I'm a cookbook author, and I'm a proponent of organic food and healthy food when I can, but we all eat genetically modified food. It's in the food supply'

Paltrow, who also heads her own health and lifestyle brand 'GOOP', believes that there is still much to be learned about genetically modified organisms and believes all consumers should have knowledge of what goes into their groceries.

'Much the way I want to know if my food is farm-raised, or wild, or if my orange juice is fresh or from concentrate. I also believe I have the right, and we as Americans all have the right to know what's in our food'

The Academy Award winner was speaking on behalf of the "Just Label It!" campaign, an organization of organic food companies that is trying to quas the bill in the senate.
