Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage is Getting His Voice Over Work in 'Destiny' Wiped Out

When the latest expansion to Activision and Bungie's wildly popular sci-fi shooter 'Destiny' comes out later this year, players will have a drastic new change to get used to. Game Informer is reporting that the developers have decided on a new voice for the game's robot AI companion, 'The Ghost'.

The original game featured Peter Dinklage, known to many as Tyrion Lannister from HBO's Game of Thrones, as the ghost's voice. When the latest add-on, 'The Taken King', releases this September, all of Dinklage's voice over work will be scrapped and replaced by Nolan North.

North is a huge name in the video game industry. He's worked on huge franchises like Assassin's Creed and Uncharted, so most gamers will probably be familiar with his work. The move is certainly a bizarre one. It's not often that a video game will have such a prominent character completely overhauled like this.

Many Destiny players have logged hundreds maybe even thousands of hours on the game, and Dinklage's voice has been their guiding them through the whole thing. The overhaul includes all the dialogue from the base game, so it's as if Dinklage has been completely wiped from the game's history.

The AV Club speculates that the decision to go with North is a financial one. He may be a big name, but he surely commands a smaller fee than an A-lister like Dinklage would.

"I was really excited to do this role," North said to Game Informer, "You want to give him as much personality as the world will allow, without making it unbelievable. There's a fine line to walk there, and I think we found it."

Gamers can listen to the North voiced Ghost when Destiny: The Taken King launches this September.
