Fans of the BBC series 'Sherlock' should immediately stop what they are doing and pay attention. Show creator Steven Moffat has just announced that 'Masterpiece' will be a ghost story!
Moffat answered some questions about 'Masterpiece' during the Television Critics Association summer press tour, where he disclosed that they decided to bring 'Sherlock' to the past to tell a ghostly tale.
"The main difference I would say, the only temperature change moving it from Victorian and Modern is ghost stories work better in the Victorian setting," Steven Moffat admitted. "Doyle stories that are scary chillers we haven't done much. Victorian era gives us a chance to do a creepy one, a scary one."
Steven Moffat also confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch will be more of a proper gentleman than the usual sociopathic modern day Sherlock Holmes.
"Sherlock Holmes has the manners of a Victorian gentleman which he doesn't have in modern day, so he's less brattish," he said. "I'd say this Sherlock is a little more polished. He operates like a Victorian gentleman."

But why decide on going back to the Victorian era Sherlock Holmes now?
"We checked the books and discovered we got it wrong," Moffat joked. "I said to [co-creator] Mark [Gatiss] we should've read them first."
Fans are warned not to expect 'Sherlock' to stay in the past.
"Really this is a one-off unless we go mad and set it in the 1940s and have him fight Hitler! Nothing's inconceivable if you have bad taste," Moffat said. "No, we go back to doing Sherlock next year unless I'm lying or we change our minds."
And since anything can happen in a 'Sherlock' Special, will Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott) appear in 'Masterpiece?'
Steven Moffat's response was quick. "No comment."
There would be no point in asking whether Irene Sadler, played by Lara Pulver, would make an appearance as well. However, it was recently revealed that another 'Sherlock' actor would be in the 'Sherlock' Special.
Jonathan Aris, who plays Anderson in the modern day series, recently made news for adding 'Star Wars: Rogue One' to his Spotlight page. The first glimpse of the actor's TV credits shows that he will be in the 'Sherlock Special.'
