Disney and Marvel are making the most out of last year's surprise hit 'Guardians of the Galaxy,' which went on to earn $774.2 million worldwide. The film didn't only become the highest grossing superhero movie of 2014; it also catapulted star Chris Pratt into superstardom.
'Guardians of the Galaxy' was so successful that a sequel had to be in order, although it might take a little longer before that gets released.
It looks like fans that are waiting for 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2' will find themselves entertained while watching the new animated series featuring Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket, Groot and Drax.
'Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy' will air on Disney XD, and the studio thought it would be nice to release a trailer for the animated series featuring Blue Swede's 'Hooked on a Feeling.'
It is still unclear whether the galaxy's famous band of misfits will be up against a brand new villain, although Gamora's sister Nebula is seen in the trailer. There have been speculations that the Guardians will be fighting Thanos, but there are also rumors that the bad guy in the TV series would be Ronan.
The 'Guardians of the Galaxy' animated series will feature the voice talents of Will Friedle as Peter Quill, Vanessa Marshall as Gamora, Trevor Devall as Rocket, Kevin Michael Richardson as Groot and David Sobolov as Drax the Destroyer. Yondu, the character immortalized by 'The Walking Dead' star Michael Rooker, will be voiced by James Arnold Taylor.
Marvel's vice president for animation Stephen Wacker has previously said that the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' animated series will reflect Phase 2 of Marvel Animation and is cautious of the show's viewers.
"One lesson is 'not to underestimate the audience,'" Wacker said. "You can't be afraid to go deeper, to explore stories and characters with some depth. This audience may be young, but it can spot a stinker a mile away."
'Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy' will air on Disney XD on September 26.
