'Game Of Thrones' Update: Max Von Sydow Set To Play The Three-Eyed Raven In Season 6! Who Is Brynden Rivers?

'Game of Thrones' is pulling in all the star power it could get for Season Six!

Just a few days after it was announced that 'Deadwood' star Ian McShane has joined the cast of the HBO hit series, another veteran actor has accepted the role of a character that has already been established in the fourth season.

According to Entertainment Weekly, legendary actor Max von Sydow has been cast as the Three-Eyed Raven in the sixth season of 'Game of Thrones.' The character has already made an appearance in the season finale, when Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) finally reached the weirwood tree to begin his training as a full-pledged greenseer.

The Three-Eyed Raven has appeared in several episodes as an actual raven, but he is finally seen in his true form in the fourth season. The raven was initially played by Struan Rodger in Season Four.

According to EW, Max von Sydow is already in Belfast filming his scenes although he might only have a short screentime. Nevertheless, the Three-Eyed Raven is one of the most important characters in the show.

But just how important is the Three-Eyed Raven?

His real name is Lord Brynden Rivers, but he was also known as Lord Bloodraven. He is the bastard son of Aegon Targaryen and a former Lord Commander of the Night's Watch but he later disappeared Beyond the Wall. Brynden is also rumored to be a sorcerer, but he is best described as a greenseer.

The casting of Max von Sydow as the Three-Eyed Raven also proves that the character is of much importance, since 'Game of Thrones' has a history of choosing established actors in key roles.

Another established actor that was recently added to the show's cast is Ian McShane, whose character is still unannounced. There are several speculations that the 'Deadwood' actor will portray either a Greyjoy or a Tarly.
