Nvidia Recalls Shield Gaming Tablet Due To Fire Hazard

Nvidia has announced that it will be recalling some of its Shield 8-inch tablets in the United States. The precautionary measure taken by the tech company is linked to the battery of the said devices which can overheat and result to a fire hazard.

The tablet, running on Android operating system, has a design targeted for gaming enthusiasts. The unique battery of the device is made to last longer to allow players to enjoy their games.

Hector Marinez, Nvidia spokesman stated that the company will keep on taking similar actions whenever necessary to protect its customers. They will continue to aggressively take best practices to avoid similar concerns in the future.

Marinez states that, "Products containing lithium-ion batteries have been the subject of numerous recalls across the electronics industry."

The company clarified that the move will not cost much to damage the reputation of the company which has been in the business since 1993. Though some users believe that the company will cost $1 million at the most. The company is famous for its graphics chips products.

Nvidia will be replacing the batteries of the Shield tablets with new battery types. The recall will only be effective in the US since the product was only launched in the area in July 2014. The product was not disclosed in other markets. However, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that about 5,000 units of the tablet were sold in Canada.

The American tech company has received four reports of overheating batteries which are results of thermal runaway. Two reports of damage to flooring were also recorded. The company confirmed that other Nvidia products are not affected by the recall.

The Shield 8-inch tablet was initially released in July 2014 with price ranging from $300-$400. The portable gaming system was designed to provide a different gaming experience to their fans.
