Subway Sets Guinness World Record with 1,481 People Making Sandwiches Simultaneously

Subway has just set a new Guinness World Record for the most number of people making Sandwiches Simultaneously.

The fast food giant assembled 1,481 of its employees and franchisees at a Las Vegas convention hall to break the record, which was previously held by dining discount company TangoTab, who set the mark in February of last year with 1,363 people. Subway started this record category when they set the original record of 254 way back in 2012.

The 'sandwich artists' as the company calls them, were gathered to celebrate the brand's 50th anniversary. According to The Daily Meal, all the sandwiches made during the stunt were Turkey subs with lettuce and tomato. They were later donated to the Salvation Army.

Prior to the event, Fox Vegas reported that 1,965 people were set to take part in the sandwich making. The final tallied figure was significantly lower than that, but it was still good for the record.

The news is a welcome bit of positivity for Subway, whose name has been in the news recently, but often for the wrong reasons.

Last month, the company cut ties with former pitchman and brand ambassador Jared Fogle after his house was raided in connection to an ongoing child pornography investigation.

Here's the statement they made last month:

"Subway and Jared Fogle have mutually agreed to suspend their relationship due to the current investigation. Jared continues to cooperate with authorities and he expects no actions to be forthcoming. Both Jared and Subway agree that this was the appropriate step to take."

Fogle has once again gotten media attention as the investigation revealed that he may have solicited sex from an underage girl.
