11th Iron Chef Competition Almost Ready for Kick Off

The Iron Chef cook off continues with the 11th Annual Iron Chef Competition which will be held in Bordine's Nursery in Genoa Township on August 6. The main event features Chef James Crozier of the brand new 2FOGs Pub in Howell and Eirik Kauserund of La Vista Bistro in Pinckney.

There will also be a mixology contest between Howell/Brighton featuring the defending champion Dani Borden of Diamonds Steak & Seafood and Joe Silvestri of The Pound! Bar and Grill.

The real winners of the competition though will be the residents of Genoa via the Gleaners Community Food Bank's Shared Harvest Pantry. The competition proceeds will go to this pantry and will be used to provide 330,000 meals to those in need in the county. This competition hopes to help even more residents.

"This is our biggest fundraiser of the year," said by Gleaners spokeswoman Bridget Green.

The Iron Chef competition is based on the TV hit and, again, will be featured by WDIV-TV Channel 4 anchorman Steve Garagiola as moderator. Commentary will also be made by Detroit News Neal Rubin.

Green adds, "We're able to do what we do for the community, in part, due to Iron Chef."

And, in keeping with the format, Bordine's greenhouse will be converted into the "kitchen stadium" that everyone has come to associate with Iron Chef. Also, each chef will be required to craft an appetizer, entrée, and dessert which all contain a surprise unusual ingredient that will only be revealed during the competition.

Guests can sample the dishes prepared and vote in the Jack Berry Iron Chef Fan Favorite Award.

Judging the event are Livingstone notables like Undersheriff Mike Murphy, Renee "The Great Foodini" Chodkowski, and Lakeland Golf & Country Club chef Patrick Srock.

Also, during the event a silent auction will be held to bid for judge's seats for next year's competition.
