7-Eleven Celebrates 88th Birthday By Giving Away Free Slurpees, Twinkies, and More

The 24-hour convenience store chain 7-Eleven is celebrating its 88th birthday with a bang and possibly hundreds of brain freeze cases. Mark your calendars because 7-11 will be Free Slurpee Day at all 7-Eleven stores across the U.S.

Get your favorite icy cold drinks while you can because the promo will only last from exactly 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday. You can get your Slurpee fix in any of the flavors available and even get a taste of the new Sour Patch Watermelon Slurpee, which was introduced on July 1.

The free colorful brain freeze-inducing drinks in their distinctive dome-capped cups will only be available in the small 12-ounce size though, so sorry to anyone who wanted to bring their makeshift Slurpee cups out of buckets the way they did on Bring Your Own Cup Day. During its birthday last year, the company gave away free Big Gulps and Twinkies on July 11.

According to reports, Snapchat will also get in on the free Slurpee craze this weekend by adding a 7-Eleven Day filter for anyone who wants to take selfie snaps with their Slurpees.

In addition to the free Slurpees, the country's largest convenience store chain will also be giving away a host of other freebies on its birthday week. During the week of July 12 through 18, customers who scan their cups in the free 7-Eleven Mobile App may get a 7-Eleven Freebie (food and drinks worth under $2) with the purchase of coffee, Chillers Iced Coffee, Slurpee or Big Gulp. Laura Gordon, 7-Eleven's vice president of marketing and brand communication, said this promo is about putting convenience at the fingertips of customers.

It's OK to indulge on this very special Free Slurpee Day, she advises. "Every year on 7-Eleven Day, we take the opportunity to thank our guests for their patronage throughout the year. This year we're saying thanks in an even bigger way with eight days of free stuff ... It's our birthday. Everyone eats ice cream and cake on their birthday," she said. Fall in line early because the free Slurpees will only be available while supplies last, and don't worry, you can mix flavors if you want to.
