Elon Musk Tesla Motors: SpaceX Iron Man Billionaire Giving $1,000 For Tesla Referral Program

It has been reported that the modern outlook of Marvel's character Iron Man (as played by Robert Downey Jr.) is based on the South African billionaire behind companies like SpaceX and even Paypal - and he's taking one step further in comparisons as Elon Musk's Tesla Motors offers rewards to car owners who convince others to ride one of their vehicles.

In a recent conference, Elon Musk's Tesla Motors announced what they're calling the company's "referral program," in which owners of vehicles created by the company will get $1,000 worth of credit on the company if they convince others to buy one of the cars.

According to Business Insider, there will be no cash involved in this Elon Musk Tesla Motors strategy and it's necessary to already be a Tesla owner to participate, but still the deal's pretty sweet for those who are involved with the electric cars company, as long as they share the love with others.

Besides getting $1,000 off per new customer (there's a maximum of 10 per owner), the new Elon Musk Tesla Motors program also gets a few other perks: after getting five other people to buy their cars, owners are invited to the Tesla "gigafactory" in Nevada as well as attend its grand opening party; in the meantime, getting 10 referrals gets owners the right to buy the Founder Series Model X, a car currently unavailable for the public - and the first person to hit the 10 new customer mark gets the car for free.

Market Watch reports that the new Elon Musk Tesla Motors strategy is part of the company's ongoing "guerrilla battle" with car dealers all over the country, exponentiating through word of mouth as Tesla sells its cars directly to customers without going through dealerships, something that has cost them bans in a few states such as Arizona and Texas.

According to Wired, this Elon Musk Tesla Motors program doesn't mean they won't be opening their own stores in the future, but if it proves a success they might open less than what they're currently planning.
