Over the past few months, the Emmy-nominated creator of "Inside Amy Schumer" has turned into one of the hottest fresh new faces in comedy, and success keeps following her around with her recent romantic comedy "Trainwreck" - but, as she promotes the film she wrote herself, Amy Schumer's interviews may not be going in the direction she's comfortable with.
In a recent Amy Schumer interview with an Australian DJ from the popular radio station KIIS 101.1 FM, Matt Tilley, he told the comedienne that the character she plays in the film (which is autobiographical by Schumer's account) was "skanky."
According to Philly.com, the Amy Schumer interview saw the comedienne getting asked questions by both Tilley and his hosting partner Jane Hill, and at some point it became clear that Tilley had crossed a line, asking first whether in America the word "skanky" existed, going on to define the character with it.
In the romantic comedy, Schumer portrays a promiscuous young woman who drinks too much and then falls in love with a nice guy, played by Bill Hader, which sees the character thinking her life through to become a healthier person - but the man who performed the Amy Schumer interview had seen the film in a fairly different light.
During the Amy Schumer interview, Tilley asked whether the word "skanky" existed in America, to which the comedienne quickly replied what had made him think of his mom - so the interviewer was quick to specify he wasn't trying to offend anyone.
"Whatever you're trying to do, you are," Schumer said, according to ATTN. "That's a rude question."
As The New York Daily News reports, things just got more awkward from then on, although Schumer did stay for the entirety of the interview, saying she'd do anything to get another interview with Tilley, while the female interviewer, Hill, said she could interview Schumer by herself next time.
A few months back, there was a similar situation with Robert Downey Jr. when he was asked about his drug abuse past and his father during a promotional interview for "Avengers: Age of Ultron."
