Aside from serving New Yorkers hot chocolate in the morning, Rick and Michael Mast of the Mast Brothers Chocolate Makers have found out a cooler way to serve cocoa drinks: craft beer, Huffington Post reports.
Although it is non-alcoholic, the Mast brothers were able to try out brewing cocoa beans just like how it is done with fermented beer. Roasted at their chocolate factory in Brooklyn, the shelled beans are then cold brewed for about 24 hours inside a stainless steel fermentation tank, which is normally used for wine or beer.
The carbon dioxide is then added to the brew for carbonation, followed by nitrogen to give it a frothy texture before the "beer" is poured into kegs.
Only available at their Brooklyn factory, the chocolate beer is served in two flavors: the "Brooklyn Blend" with an allspice flavor and the "Vanilla and Smoke," which beans come all the way from Madagascar.

New flavors will be available soon with lime and cinnamon flavors blended with beans from Tanzania and Peru.
A rep for Mast Brothers Chocolate Makers told Huffington Post that cocoa beer will be served in bottles "down the road."
According to the brothers, the chocolate drink can be mixed with bourbon and rye, or amaro and rum if drinkers prefer cocktails.
Curious chocolate lovers are invited to see the brewing process of the newly crafted chocolate beer and other chocolate-making methods in a 30-minute behind the scenes tour inside their factory.
Aside from the Mast brothers, chocolate beer is also served in bottles by different companies across the U.S. with different brands such as Rogue's Chocolate Stout, Young's Double Chocolate Stout, Fort Collins Brewery Double Chocolate Stout, Abita Turbodog, Brooklyn Brewing Co. Black Chocolate Stout, Ass Kisser Chocolate Box Dark Oatmeal Stout, Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout, Clown Shoes Chocolate Sombrero Stout, Great Divide Yeti Chocolate Imperial Stout, and Due South Roast Cocoa Stout.
