US Cable Network Courts YouTube Celebs

It is the first time that cable TV networks are now showing interest in YouTube celebrities. Venture Beat reported that Nickelodeon held a casting call during VidCon. It is an event that showcases YouTube artists and other Internet stars that are now gaining fans using Vine, Instagram and even Snapchat.

Nickelodeon took advantage of the event to finally house some of the famous personalities coming from the Internet these days including comedians, musicians, filmmakers and even beauty gurus. These celebrities have to concise and film their material in the shortest span possible and it is definitely something not easy. And this is why networks find these YouTube channels who have gained lots of subscribers appealing to be a part of their business. According to statistics, YouTube reaches a lot of people in the US alone whose demographics fall from 18 years old to 49 than the usual shows on cable TV. It is also the same demographics that lure more advertisers.

Reuters wrote about the event that happened from Thursday to Saturday was attended by 20,000 fans who took photos of their favorite celebrities. Attendees even participated sessions like "What makes a good gaming channel?"

It has been an eventful day both for YouTube personalities and cable networks especially since Nickelodeon sent out their talents who are part of their new series called "Game Shakers." One of their stars is GloZell who is known on YouTube for having 3.8 million followers because of her comedic materials. Nickelodeon admits that YouTube and other online celebrities have this built-in followers and their audience are fans.

Even CBS Corp's got a hold of some Internet celebrities during the event for potential projects with them. The president of CBS Interactive, Jim Lanzone, confirmed this. CBS is looking to explore the distribution of their content through the help of video creators on the Internet.
