Hollywood's brightest star Tom Cruise says that he would like to be a part of "Top Gun 2" if the opportunity presents itself. When Top Gun came out in 1986, Tom Cruise's popularity was already rising due to his coming-of-age film "Risky Business." After Top Gun was released, it solidified Cruise's status as one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood. Ever since then, Cruise starred in hit after hit, never diminishing his popularity in Hollywood and in the whole world.
Now the Hollywood actor says that he would like to play his iconic role as U.S. Navy pilot LT. Pete "Maverick" Mitchell in a possible sequel to the first film. Top Gun was such a success in the 1980s that not only did it make Cruise an international star but it also increased the number of recruits for the US Navy's air force regiment.
The U.S. Navy said that at that time, the recruitment for Naval Aviators experienced a significant increase when the movie came out. Last month, David Ellison, who is the chief executive producer of Skydance media, said that a script is currently being developed for the sequel to Top Gun.
During his premier of "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" in London, Cruise spoke with Reuters and he said, "It would be fun. I would like to get back into those jets." He added, "It would have to be practical. I don't want any CGI jets. I want to shoot it like how we shot the first one." Cruise was in London attending the premier of his latest and fifth Mission: Impossible film. In Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation, Cruise reprises his role as Ethan Hunt - the leader of the Impossible Missions Force (IMF), and this time, they're after a group of agents who are just as skilled as they are in espionage and counter-terrorism.
Cruise is quite famous for performing his own stunts, and with this new installment to the Mission: Impossible franchise, he did his own stunts again. In one scene, Cruise was hanging at the side of a plane while the aircraft was airborne. The stunt looked very dangerous, but Cruise never had qualms about performing highly risky stunts like when he scaled the wall of the Burj Khalifa tower in Dubai - the tallest tower in the world.
