"People think that things are going to be automated and scaled, but that's not true. The truth is that people really misunderstand how it's going to work," says Alex Lightman.

Barcelona-based Natural Machines is preparing to reveal its 3D printer. Dubbed "Foodini," the device gives home-cooks as well as chefs the ability to create food in such a way that wasn't even commercially possible before.

In fact, Foodini can create any shape and even process many different types of food. Think homemade pasta according to one's preferred shape and size, or perfectly portioned and packed burgers.

Not only can it customize practically anything, it also aids in perfectly identical portions and sizes of various food fare while making the whole process greatly creative and fun for users.

Founder and chief marketing officer Lynette Kucsma says, "We already have a number of restaurants, including national chains, and Michelin starred chefs who have expressed interests. We expect the demand to be very big, and very broad."

"The key word here is customization. I really don't think people quite understand how much control they will have over the things they will be able to order," explains Lightman.

Whatever you celebrate this festive season, we wish you a happy holiday! We printed some roasted red pepper and basil crackers to decorate, but they didn't last too long. People kept eating them. :-)
