Study By Israeli Team Reveals Marijuana Helps Heal Broken Bones [PHOTOS]

There has been a long ongoing battle between the legalization of marijuana in the United States.

As advocates like Wiz Khalifa, Snoop Dogg, Susan Sarandon and comedian Tommy Chong fight for its legalization, this new study sheds a new light on how marijuana can benefit individuals medically.

 Only the best.

Researchers from Tel Aviv University and Hebrew University recently conducted a study on how cannabis can aid in the healing process of broken bones.

It was discovered that "a non-psychotropic component" of the drug called CBD was able to strengthen fractured bones as they were in the midst of healing. Cannabinoid cannabidol (CBD) is different from THC in the sense that it doesn't make an individual get high.

In fact, the researchers conducted the study on lab rats that had leg fractures. The bones were prominently stronger after eight weeks upon giving the rodents CBD.

In addition, the researchers also tested rats with a mixture of both CBD and THC. It was found that "CBD alone" was beneficial for therapy.

Independent UK reports that the scientists infer that the results of the experiments are "due to a connection between cannabinoid receptors in the human body and the stimulation of bone growth."

Dr. Yankel Gabet, one of the lead researchers on the study, notes: "We found CBD alone to be sufficiently effective in enhancing fracture healing."

"Other studies have also shown CBD to be a safe agent, which leads us to believe we should continue this line of study in clinical trials to assess its usefulness in improving human fracture healing," Dr. Gabet continued.

As if the discovery wasn't revelatory enough, the researchers, including Gabet, also found that using CBD in bone fracture healing result in bones that are "harder to break in the future."

The study was also published in the Journal of Bone and Mineral Research on Thursday.
