Will The Wasp Be In Captain America: Civil War? Here's Kevin Feige's Statement

If you saw Marvel's newest comic-book movie over the weekend and stayed on as the credits rolled, then you saw the cool mid-credits scene in which former Ant-Man Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) gave his daughter Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) her very own superhero costume, heavily implying that Hope will take on the mantle (and ethereal wings) of the Wasp from her presumably deceased mother in an upcoming Marvel flick. So it's not really a question of whether, but rather, a question of when will Hope actually suit up and join Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Here's what Feige said concerning the Wasp - right after Peyton Reed talked about the epic fight scene between Scott Lang's Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie): "It's going to be certainly a part of our Phase 3," says Feige, referring to the upcoming slate of Marvel films beginning with Captain America: Civil War. "It is going to be a very important moment, and - spoiler alert! - we see that suit for the first time, and her father now is finally giving it to her and realizes that he can't hold her back from what is essentially her destiny."

The next time we'll get to see Marvel's tiniest superhero (Ant-Man) will be in the highly anticipated (and currently filming) Captain America: Civil War, which is set to hit movie theaters on May 6, 2016. Since the movie is already chock-full of superheroes, it's highly doubtful that Hope Van Dyne will become the Wasp in this one. With the other Phase 3 movies on Marvel's busy plate being Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2,Spider-Man, Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War Part I and II, Black Panther, Captain Marvel and Inhumans. There's no saying exactly who will fall on which side of the Civil War conflict in the next Marvel movie, but it's safe to assume, given Scott Lang's problems with authority, that he'll align himself with Falcon, Cap, and the small-government approach to superhumans. So when the screen at the end of the credits promises "Ant-Man Will Return," it means Scott and probably Hope will show up to join Captain America.
