'Gotham' Creator Bruno Heller Talks About Cameron Monaghan's Instagram Post! Will The Joker Appear In Season 2?

The Batman prequel series 'Gotham' may have lost a few bad guys in the first season, but Season Two is expected to return with new villains and the possible birth of the Joker.

Cameron Monaghan, who played Jerome Valeska in Season One, has recently posted an Instagram photo of himself looking a little like the Clown Prince of Crime. The picture, which is in black and white, shows Monaghan smiling widely. The caption was just one word: #Gotham.

Monaghan only had appeared in one episode, "The Blind Fortune Teller." However, his photo confirmed he will return in the second season and fans immediately started speculating that Jerome will finally turn into the Joker.

In an interview with IGN, 'Gotham' creator Bruce Heller has finally confirmed Jerome's return, and so much more.

"Cameron is coming back. He's playing Jerome," Heller said.

He also confirmed that there will be a Joker backstory.

"The story we're telling is absolutely the story of how the Joker came to be," Heller said. "More than that, I can't tell you, because I've not yet formulated a clever J.J. Abrams type of way of telling you the truth but avoiding the spoiler."

Ben McKenzie, who plays James Gordon in the show, admitted that Season Two will give the Joker more focus.

"Without getting into any of that, what I think it does -- given that we've now read the first four scripts and Jerome is definitely featured -- I think for fans of Joker are going to be very happy," he said.

Heller also revealed that the Joker's storyline will extend throughout the second season.

"It's a storyline that plays out over the whole season," he confirmed. "By the end of the season, all Joker fans will go, 'Ahhh! What a brilliant, brilliant idea!'"

'Gotham' will return to Fox on September 21, 2015.
