Jason Dohring has joined The Originals. Dohring will first appear in the third season premiere of The Vampire Diaries spinoff series as Detective Will Kinney, who is described as smart and confident with a very clear sense of right and wrong. Detective Kinney is out to bring the forces of evil to justice. And while he doesn't know exactly what's going on in New Orleans when it comes to supernatural beings essentially ruling the city from the shadows, he has a strong suspicion that something strange is happening beneath the surface of the city.
This isn't the first TV role Dohring has landed since his time playing the loveable bad boy on Veronica Mars (which he also reprised for the movie last year). He's spent some time on a bunch of other CW shows, like The Messengers, The Tomorrow People, Ringer and Supernatural, as well as CW Seed's web series Play It Again Dick, the Veronica Mars spinoff/parody. The Originals season three premieres Thursday, Oct. 8 at 9 p.m. on the CW.
Dohring is the son of Laurie and Doug Dohring, the owner of the marketing research firm, the Dohring Company. He married his wife Lauren Kutner on July 7, 2004 and on August 11, 2010 the couple had a son named Owen Riley Dohring. It was announced by Dohring on November 12, 2012 that the couple had recently welcomed another child, a girl named Lilly. Dohring is a Scientologist and has credited Scientology for salvaging his career in the entertainment industry .
In October 2008, it was announced that Jason would return to TV as Spencer, a senior legislative assistant, on the HBO comedy series Washingtonienne. In 2012, Dohring made a guest appearance on the TV show Supernatural as the time god Chronos. He was also cast in CW's science fiction drama The Tommorow People in a potentially recurring role.
