'The Winds Of Winter' Author George R.R. Martin Set To Meet With Editors, Addresses Comic-Con Absence

There is no question that George R.R. Martin is currently working really hard to finish the sixth 'A Song of Ice and Fire' book 'The Winds of Winter.' The author has even opted to steer clear of the San Diego Comic-Con to keep working on the novel.

This doesn't mean he doesn't know how to mix business with a little leisure time on the side. Martin recently announced on his live journal Not A Blog that he will be attending a wedding, meeting with important people about his book and catching a baseball game in the same week.

"So I'm headed east the first week of August... for a wedding, yes, and no, that's private, so you don't get to hear any more about it..." he wrote, "but I am going to see my editors and publishers and agents while I am in town, and do some other fun stuff... including a ball game."

According to Martin, the Staten Island Yankees will be changing their name to the Staten Island Direwolves for one night. The Direwolves will be up against the Lannister Lions, and both teams will be wearing special jerseys made for the game.

In a previous entry, he explained why he wasn't present at SDCC.

"I am not in San Diego at Comicon, and I have to admit, that feels strange," Martin wrote.

"Staying home was the right decision. I just got back from Chicago and the Dead shows, and before that it was Europe, and it is hardly as if HBO needed me in San Diego to represent... not with so much of our cast on hand."

He then admits that his own absence saddened him. "Even so... even so... it does make me a little sad, not being there," he wrote.

'Son of Kong,' which is Martin's pet name for 'The Winds of Winter,' is due for publication on April 2016.
