Fans of the NBC thriller 'Hannibal' were understandably dismayed when the network announced that it will be cancelling the show. The series has aired on NBC for three seasons, and will not be renewed after the season finale premieres on August 29.
It was also announced that the show will be moved to a new schedule. 'Hannibal' will now air on Saturdays instead of its regular Thursday schedule. A tweet explained that the network may have decided to move the series due to dwindling numbers.
However, all is not lost for Fannibals. The show was recently present at the San Diego Comic-Con, where creator David Fuller unveiled an extended trailer for the rest of Season Three.
The Comic-Con trailer is five minutes long and offers a long, disturbing look at Frank Dolarhyde (Richard Armitage) as he transforms into the Red Dragon.
The trailer also shows Will Graham (Hugh Dancy) seeking the help of Hannibal Lecter (Mads Mikkelsen) to take down the Tooth Fairy. It is also revealed that Dolarhyde is contacting the cannibalistic doctor as well. Lecter ultimately tells Dolarhyde, "Save yourself. Kill them all."
'Hannibal' also stars Laurence Fishburne, Gillian Anderson, Tao Okamoto and Zachary Quinto.
There is no word yet on whether the series will continue after the NBC cancellation. However, Bryan Fuller has expressed the intention find a new network.
"'Hannibal' is finishing his last course at NBC's table this summer, but a hungry cannibal can always dine again," he said in a statement following the show's cancellation.
Richard Armitage is best known for playing the dwarf prince Thorin Oakenshield in the live action adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's 'The Hobbit.' He also had a small but memorable role as Heinz Kruger in the Marvel film 'Captain America: The First Avenger.'
Armitage has been rumored to have a cameo role in the film 'Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass.'
