Avengers: Age of Ultron Directors Cut? Here's What Director Joss Whedon Has to Say

The next instalment of Marvel's superhero mash up 'The Avengers' isn't due in theatres until May 2018 when the first part of the Infinity War kicks off. In the meantime, diehard fans have been holding on to the faint glimmer of hope that an extended director's cut of the latest Avengers romp 'Age of Ultron' may be in the works.

At the recently concluded San Diego Comic Con, franchise director Joss Whedon addressed these rumours in an interview with NerdHQ moderated by actor Zachary Levi. Whedon's answer? No. don't expect an extended edition of Age of Ultron, or any of his films for that matter. Here's what he told Levi:

It has always been my ambition never to do a director's cut of anything and always to make the movie with the studio that we both want to make. Ultron was very complex and there was a lot of back-and-forth. My instinct is no. Just as an artist, I'm super fucking lazy and that sounds like it would be hard. I don't think there's interest in it, right now. You'll see a bunch of stuff on the DVD in extras that were meant to be there.

Whedon was of course joking in the part about him being lazy, but he is adamant about never trying to change his original vision:

If I tell a story, I want that to be the story I told. Ultron may have some transitions that I'm not 100% on board with. It's also one of the most ridiculously personal things I've ever put on screen.

Well there you have it Avengers fans. The earliest you can catch some Marvel superhero team up action is probably next year's Captain America: Civil War, which is set to feature appearances from the likes of Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, and Hawkeye.
