For years, the creator and star of the HBO show "Girls" had answered, when asked about marriage, that Lena Dunham and boyfriend Jack Antonoff wouldn't even consider walking down the aisle until everyone in the United States had the same right as straight couples did - but it seems like she may be backing down at least for the time being.
At the time the Supreme Court of the United States said that same-sex marriage was protected by the Constitution throughout the country, the actress and writer took to her Twitter to tease Lena Dunham's boyfriend about having to pop the question, a tweet that made headlines.
Now, according to E! Online, the actress and writer published an op-ed last Friday on the New Yorker, talking about the "bridal fantasies" from her childhood as well as Lena Dunham's boyfriend's decision to keep away from tying the knot until everyone was able to - in something that seems entirely from his side from the article.
Us Weekly reports that, after the SCOTUS ruling became public, the actress asked Lena Dunham's boyfriend when they'd be getting married themselves, and he seemed fairly at odds with the possibility, ultimately prompting her to drop the subject altogether, although her piece seems to indicate she was definitely keen on the idea of marriage.
"It turns out that what I was waiting for was not the chance to marry but the chance to think about marriage on an even playing field, in a world where its relevance is a little harder to question and its essence a little harder to reject," wrote the actress, explaining how things are going for her after speaking to Lena Dunham's boyfriend. "I like living in that uncertainty while other people celebrate their hard-won right to have just what they grew up dreaming of, with no caveats. I like admitting that my feminism and my femininity are not fully formed or in perfect harmony."
In all, it seems like Lena Dunham's boyfriend hasn't completely shunned out the possibility, so the two could get married in the future!
