Good news Chipotle fans, it seems like the Mexican fast food chain's Carnitas drought is coming to an end. The chain has been plagued by shortages of the popular braised pork dish throughout the year due to what it called back in January a lack of "responsibly raised pork."
During that time around 1/3 of Chipotle outlets nationwide were unable to serve the dish. The company was forced to rotate the menu item among select markets in six week intervals, which quickly confused customers.
CNN Money reports that Chipotle will be getting its pork from Karro Food in the United Kingdom. In an official statement the restaurant said:
"It has always been our preference to get our pork (and other meats) from domestic suppliers, but right now the supply simply isn't available upwards of 95% of pork produced in this country is conventionally raised, so the available supply that meets our high standards is relatively small."
AGweb added that Carnitas should return to all of Chipotle's 100+ Florida locations soon and that by the end of the year, all locations nationwide will be back serving the popular dish/:
"The new pork is just getting into restaurants in Florida, and we'll continue to add new markets in the coming months as our supply increases," Chris Arnold, a spokesman for the Denver-based company, said in an e-mail. "We expect to have carnitas back in all of our restaurants before the end of the year."
Chipotle is known for its forward thinking approach to fast food. Earlier this year the company announced that it was scrapping it's previous Tortilla recipe in favour of an "artisanal version" that only uses four ingredients: Flour, Water, Oil, and Salt. The Company is also the first chain to completely eliminate all GMO's from its menu.
