In the comic books, the Four Horsemen have been brainwashed by Apocalypse to do his bidding. Isaac had previously spoken to IGN about his character's recruitment method.

"It's very interesting the way that he does that," the actor said. "You know the idea of - the way that cult leaders do - they find people that are in need of something and try to fulfill that thing in them - as it relates to every one of the Horseman."

According to Alexandra Shipp, Storm has been convinced into taking Apocalypse's mantle by the character's search for a god.

Apocalypse, who is also known as En Sabah Nur, is said to be the first mutant. The character's origins will be dealt with briefly in the film.

The trailer also reveals that it is a confrontation between Apocalypse and Professor X (James McAvoy) that caused Charles Xavier to lose his hair.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' will premiere on May 27, 2016.
